Devon Isaacs called Cowboy, 22, who brutally chopped Trobey Abrams across his face, causing him to lose partial vision in his right eye has been jailed for two and half years. He appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore in the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court and was found guilty.
He was also ordered to pay Abrams compensation in the sum of $2M failing which he will have to serve a further two and a half years in jail upon the completion of the first sentence. Isaacs, who is well known to the authorities, gave a number of addresses including, Angoy’s Avenue, Church Street, New Amsterdam and Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice.
He was accused on November 27 last, at Angoy’s Avenue whilst armed with a cutlass, of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Trobey Abrams with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievously bodily harm.
The court was told that they two men are known to each other, but are not friends. Around 23:30hrs on the night in question, Abrams was asleep at home when he was aroused by a sound. Before he realized what was happening he was chopped across his face. He received a cut stretching from his right ear to his right eye. He was chopped a few more times but was able to hold on to the cutlass and became entangled with the intruder. The man fled and Abrams was able to recognize the perpetrator even as he shouted for help.
Abrams was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted for emergency operation.
Isaacs was also sentenced to a further six months in jail on a charge of threatening behaviour, in which he threatened to kill Isaacs, which occurred in the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court.
That charge reads that around 10:30hrs on Monday 20th February at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court, Isaacs who was on trial for wounding Abrams threatened to kill the virtual complainant if he was responsible for him going to jail.
His remarks were heard by those in the court including Magistrate Moore, who told the VC to make a complaint to the police. The matter was reported and Isaacs was furthered charged and jailed for six months. That sentence will run consecutively with the first sentence.
