– son’s alibi does not match
The fire that claimed the life of 82-year-old Rudolph Ross on Sunday is turning out to be a possible case of arson.
Investigators in Berbice who detained the son of the dead man are piecing together the circumstances surrounding the fire. According to a reliable source a kerosene container was found at the scene of the aftermath. This is believed to have been used to set the two-storey concrete building alight.
According to Divisional Commander, Ian Amsterdam, the son of the dead man has been giving investigators various alibis. According to him, “It’s just not adding up but we are working on it.” Reports have also surfaced that the man in custody is a former member of the Guyana Police Force. He also not long ago remigrated to Guyana and was staying with his father at the Kildonan home.
According to information received recently the father and son had an argument the day prior to the fire. The argument reportedly stemmed from the son wanting the property to be transferred to his name but his father was not in agreement.
Rudolph Ross lost his life after he was trapped in the fire that engulfed his property at Lot 14 Kildonan Village, Corentyne Berbice. The fire reportedly began in the kitchen of the home at approximately 4:30 hrs. Residents who gathered to help fight the blaze and save the pensioner were unsuccessful.
A Post Mortem Examination conducted on the badly burnt body revealed that he died of suffocation due to smoke inhalation.
Investigations continue as the son remains in custody.
