Over the past weeks most of the tracks and open spaces on the coastlands have been fully
occupied as trainers, jockeys, grooms and owners’ of the top horses in Guyana were busy whipping their charges into shape for the Guyana Cup fever 2017 horserace meet.
Organised by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise and friends, the horserace meet is set for Sunday at the Port Mourant (Big Yard) Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
With just a few days to go before race day, the horseracing fraternity in Guyana is buzzing with excitement as most of the grooms and trainers take the horses to the track. With close to $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives available and over 70 horses entered so far, the activity is expected to be the biggest for the Easter Holiday weekend.
The feature event has a full complement of the best runners in the country lining up for competition in what is expected to be a scintillating event. The Jumbo Jet stable has reportedly entered 13 horses for the event.
All the top runners have been burning up the tracks and look good during training and turfites and punters will be hard pressed to pick winners.
The B1and lower line up, which is still incomplete since some of the owners wants to make
some last minute adjustments, already has a fearsome lineup that includes the returning Princess She Not, Kazi Azaria and CP Got Even and a fearsome pack of Spit Fire, Jack in MY Style, Golden Blue Echo, Lady Budapest, Brave Sky, Just call me Boss, Keep on Swinging and Climate Change will be looking for a change of fortune as they hunt the $1M and trophy up for grabs.
The other events are the E3 and lower West Indies bred non earners for 2016 and 2017 and E3 US and Canadian bred non earners for 2016 and 2017 over 1200M.
The 4-year-old West Indies bred and G3 and lower event over 1200M which incidentally is the distance for all the other events.
The race for animals classified H3 and lower.
The event for 3 years old Guyana bred and horses classified ‘I’ 1 and lower.
The race for Guyana bred three years old maiden horses. There is the event for animals classified J2 and K and the L and lower event.
Among other animals set to compete are –Release the Beast, Red and Lovely Super Bowl, Cat Messiah, Settling Star, Sweet Return, Isn’t She Charming, Firing Line, Big Man Boss, Goodwill Boy, Amazing Run, Light UP Canada, Witchie Poo, Campador, Red and Lovely and Its My Choice, T and T, Puppy Tail, Party Time, Flow Joe among others.
Top horses, stables and jockeys will be awarded compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
A number of added attractions and incentives including free kites will be given away on race day. There will also be bouncy castle, trampoline and other attractions for children.
