cases. Now the work of twice-adjudged Best Cop, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mitchell Caesar, is being recognized beyond these shores.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum revealed that Caesar was recently adjudged runner-up Caribbean Crime Fighter of the Year.
The award was presented to Guyana’s top sleuth by the Amalgamated Security Service Limited, in conjunction with the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police.
Crime Chief Blanhum recommended Caesar as Guyana’s representative.
Adjudged Best Cop in 2005 and 2013, Assistant Superintendent of Police Caesar also heads the Force’s highly-successful Major Crimes Unit.
The Crime Chief noted that Caesar has dismantled several criminal groups. Last year, he spearheaded investigations into 15 cold cases, 11 of which were solved. The cases he helped to crack included the Babita Sarjou murder, which had remained unsolved for almost six years, and the murder of British teen, Dominic Bernard, whose body was found in a shallow grave in January 8, 2016.
These two cases had attracted international attention.
Shortly after receiving the 2013 Best Cop award, Caesar had said : “To criminals, yes, it might appear that I’m a bit unorthodox but I honestly believe that is the way to go.
“I will not change my way of fighting crime.”
