Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the hit-and-run driver who caused the death of 23 year-old Corneille Grimmond, of Lot 6 Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara on Sunday night.
A release stated that Grimmond was found almost lifeless with multiple injuries, consistent with that of a motor vehicular accident, on the Happy Acres Public Road about 23:00hrs.
A driver has told police that he was proceeding east along the northern side of the road, when he observed Grimmond lying on the roadside “panting for breath.”
With assistance from two of his passengers, and ranks from a Professional Guard Service vehicle, the driver rushed Grimmond to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is presently at the Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigators have retrieved several pieces of a broken vehicle mirror at the scene. The victim was found about 70 feet from the debris. Police have also obtained statements from several individuals.
