…over chopping wife at market
City Magistrate Judy Latchman will tomorrow rule on whether a prima facie case has been made
out against Ishwar Heeralall, who is charged with attempted murder. Heeralall allegedly chopped his wife at the La Penitence Market.
A preliminary inquiry had been ongoing before Magistrate Latchman during which several police officers and civilians were called to testify.
Heeralall 38, of Anna Regina New Housing Scheme, Essequibo, is accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Wanita Heeralall, with intent to commit murder on July 31, 2016.
Ishwar Heeralall is currently out on $600,000 bail with instructions to report to the Criminal Investigations Department at the Ruimveldt Police Station. The accused was also ordered to lodge his passport with the court.
According to reports, Heerelall chopped his estranged wife with a chopper while she was shopping in the La Penitence Market.
Wanita Heerelall, 31, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital with a fractured skull and several wounds about her body. Based on reports, Ishwar Heerelall came to the market and was walking around the area looking for her.
It was reported that he constantly harassed the woman and did not want to accept that she had moved on with her life.
