A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for threatening to kill Quacey Baveghems, a city police prosecutor.
The man, Gregory Reynolds, had threatened to kill Prosecutor Baveghems some time last month as he was leaving the courtroom of City Magistrate Annette Singh.
Kaieteur News understands that Reynolds had appeared before the Magistrate on a charge of abusive language. He had reportedly hurled expletives at Woman City Police Corporal Bruce while at the Bourda City Police Constabulary Outpost on March 15.
According to information, the man visited the Outpost and was conversing with Corporal Bruce. But when the woman turned her back to speak with another City Police rank, Reynolds struck her on the back with a phone card and began using abusive language.
Charges were laid against him for the offence and he was brought before Magistrate Singh to answer to the charges. However, as he was about to leave the courtroom he threatened to kill Prosecutor Baveghems, while behaving in a disorderly manner.
Reynolds was also charged with disorderly behaviour and was found guilty by Magistrate Singh and sentenced to one month imprisonment.
The Magistrate had refused to grant him bail pending trial.
