With the overwhelming supported being garnered for the Guyana Cup Fever horserace meet 2017, the closing date for entries has now been pushed back to tomorrow, a few days before race day.
With the event set for Sunday 16 April (Easter Sunday) at the Port Mourant (Big Yard) Turf Club, the organisers are giving themselves a tight schedule to complete all arrangements.
However, most of the logistical arrangements are in place for the event which is organised by the Jumbo Jet Auto sales and racing stables in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club.
According to Coordinator Nazrudeen “Jumbo Jet” Mohammed, due to the overwhelming support and number of calls from horse owners seeking to make a last minute grasp to be a part of the programme, they have decided to extend the closing date to accommodate as much entries as possible, in an effort to give as much person a chance to be a part of the event.
Mohammed also assured that the team of organisers is experienced and everything will be in tip top shape, come Sunday.
Work has been completed on the grand stand, pavilions, other stands, paddock and stables. The track is being graded, wetted and rolled on a regular basis. Record breaking runs are anticipated come race day, especially with the likes of Princess She Not and CP Got Even expected to be among the starters.
A bumper crowd is expected on hand especially since it’s the Easter holiday weekend.
Eight races are listed for the day and over $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs.
The feature B1 and lower 1900M event has a top class filed entered so far with the return of champion runners Princess She Not and CP Got Even, Golden Blue Echo, Lady Budapest, Brave Sky, Spit Fire, Just call me Boss, Jack In My Style and Keep on Swinging go after each other for the $1M bounty and trophy.
An interesting list has been released for the E1 and lower West Indies bred non earners for 2016 and 2017 and E3 US and Canadian bred non earners for 2016 and 2017. Release the Beast, Goodwill Boy, Light UP Canada, Spit Fire, Red and Lovely and Its My Choice have so far been lined up for the 1200M event for the $600,000 winners money and trophy.
The other events are the 4-year-old West Indies bred and G3 and lower race for the $300,000 winner’s money and trophy.
The race for animals classified H3 and lower for the $275,000 first prize and trophy.
The event for 3 years old Guyana bred and horses classified ‘I’ 1 and lower for a first prize of $225,000 and trophy.
Guyana bred three years old maiden horses that will race for a winning take of $220,000 and trophy. The event for animals classified J2 and K for a winning take of $175,000 and trophy.
The L and lower event will see the winner getting $130,000 and trophy.
Among other animals set to compete are – Release the Beast, Super Bowl, Cat Messiah, Settling Star, Sweet Return, Isn’t She Charming, Firing Line, Big Man Boss, Goodwill Boy, Amazing Run, Light UP Canada, Witchie Poo, Campador, Red and Lovely and Its My Choice, T and T, Slim Shady, Bird Man, Chelsea, Puppy Tail, Party Time, Flow Joe, Mary Ann, Miss Olympic, Prince Saria Miss Angelie, The Rock, King Stanley, Supreme Cat, Royal Paymaster, Crown Prince Natural Beauty, Awesome Cash, Secret Escape, Little, De Rocket and Amazon Warrior among others.
Top horses, stables and jockeys will be awarded compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
A number of added attractions and incentives including free kites will be given away on race day. There will also be bouncy castle, trampoline and other attractions for children.
