Cricket Association (USACA) under-17 Captain Sanjay Stanley followed up an unbeaten 55 on Sunday with a classy century to power the tourists to their second consecutive win on their Guyana tour hosted by the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) when they beat GCC by 121 runs yesterday.
Stanley, who migrated to USA four years ago, played with plenty of confidence from the time he stroked Akeem Christmas for the game’s first boundary in the second over to when he was LBW to pacer Shadroc Bacon at 203-7.
The demise of Stanley, who reached the boundary 10 times in his 119 ball 100, triggered a dramatic collapse in which seven wickets tumbled for seven as the Americans were bowled out for 208 in 41.2 overs with Bacon ripping out four batsmen in a destructive 2.2-over spell after picking up the first wicket in his opening burst to end with 5-26 from 7.2 overs on a flat track.
GCC in reply were never in the contest after Latchman Seeram was bowled for a duck in the first over at 4-1 as only the left-handed Stefan Wilson (16) and Ricardo Phillips (15) reached double figures with the home being bundled out for 85 in 25.1 overs. Guest player Dwayne Dick bagged 4-12 from nine overs of tidy off-spin and got support Atul Iyer who had 3-9.
Maybe inspired by batting on a ground where Test greats Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar opened the batting for India, Stanley, who was born in South India, stroked Bacon gloriously past cover for four and dominated the 41-run opening stand with Pardeep Ali before Ali, who hit Akeem Christmas for four to move into teens before being trapped LBW by Bacon for 13 in the ninth over.

After Rutrik Chunduri (7) was run out at 201-4, Akul Gupta was LBW to Bacon for a duck, Dick was run out after facing one ball and Stanley, looking to up tempo, hit Bacon to the man at deep mid-wicket as the US side slumped to 203-7. The last three batsmen all failed to score as Bacon polished off the tail.
At Everest, the USACA U-14s beat Everest yesterday, while on Sunday at the same venue Stanley’s unbeaten 55 and Hinds 26 rallied the visitors to 124-2 chasing Everest’s 120 with Stanley picking up 4-9 with his off-spin and Faadil Hack taking 3-8.
On Sunday the USACA U-14s beat DCC in Queenstown as SR Mukamalk made 46 to see his team to 156-4. The visitors take a break today to watch the ODI between West Indies and Pakistan at Providence before playing MSC’s U-17 at Malteenoes tomorrow. (Sean Devers)
