A Corentyne family is now estimating over $4 million in losses after the head of their home
reportedly set it alight, Monday evening.
According to reports, the fire began around 19:30 hours on the wooden and concrete two-storey home situated at lot 232 Reef Section, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. It was reportedly set by 36-year-old Ceenarine Cyril Satrohan, a fish vendor.
According to the man’s wife, 26-year-old Sarita Satrohan, her husband returned home intoxicated and inquired about his bicycle.
She stated that when he learnt that it was misplaced, he became hostile.
“He start cuss up and tell me all kinda thing so I tek them children and go by my aunty house and I left he home alone”.
Satrohan stated that fifteen minutes later, she received word that her home was on fire. When she arrived on the scene, neighbours were assisting to extinguish the blaze.
The woman told Kaieteur News that the man would regularly accuse her of infidelity and threaten to burn down the home.
She added that last year Ceenarine tired to burn down the home twice; once in August and then in September.
Neighbours notified the Guyana Fire Service and although they arrived promptly
on scene, the house was gutted.
According to reports, Ceenarine perished in the blaze but these reports are yet to be confirmed.
Investigations are ongoing.
