Dear Editor,
Please publish this letter which is a reply to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Insurance Scheme in which she stated that NIS is investigating the matter in relation to my claim for old age benefits. Before my reply I hereby extend my deepest appreciation to Mr. Freddy Kissoon for highlighting my predicament not only to H.E President Granger but to all Guyanese. With respect to the NIS PRO press release the good lady stated the following:
a. Enquiries regarding my employment with Willems Timber and Training Company (WTT) are being conducted.
b. No records of my employment with TPL was found
c. A letter to this effect was posted to me addressed to Kabori Villiage, Potaro River
d. NIS is making every effort to ensure I receive my benefit.
Mr. Editor I have never worked with Willems Timber and Training Company post 1969 when NIS was established (Willems Timber closed its operation over 15 years). The timber company I worked with is operational and has vastly expanded. I particularly informed NIS that there is no postal or telephone service for Kabori Village 72miles Bartica, Potaro Road (not Potaro River), I also named a contact person. NIS is in receipt of an official letter from the Human Resource Consultant, of the big nationally known family company that I worked for, with copies of pay slips showing that NIS and PAYE deductions were made by the company on my behalf during the latter years of my employment.
Is this information irrelevant? The GM of NIS is aware that my two brothers and I, Franklin and Winston Cramer-Seon (twins) worked with this timber company. Franklin died by accident on one of the company’s logging concession, and I do not believe his wife and children received accidental compensation from NIS. Winston died in 2013 but had a difficult time to receive his NIS benefits. I am the lone survivor of the brothers and it seems that I may not receive my NIS benefits. I am not in the habit of revealing names of confidants. No letter was written by NIS to me, therefore no copy of the letter exists. The press release by the NIS PRO is a fairy tale. Instead of a wonderful or awesome ending, it is a constant nightmare for me. This is my last letter to the press, RE: NIS. I am expecting support from higher authorities who are now aware of my problem. Thank you Mr. Editor. Thank you Freddy Kissoon
