Will miss Jaguars match against Windwards from Saturday
By Sean Devers
Four players from double defending Champions Guyana Jaguars have been included in the West Indies President’s X1 squad to oppose Pakistan in their warm -up game at the Trelawney ground in Jamaica from April 15-17 and will weaken the Jaguars for their penultimate game in this season’s four-day tournament against the Windwards which start on Saturday April 15.
The Guyana players selected for the President’s XI are Vishaul Singh, Keon Joseph, Shemron Hetymer and Bajan Raymon Reifer, but Jaguars Skipper Leon Johnson, who has two fifties in nine Tests and four centuries and 30 fifties from 87 First-Class matches, has not been selected.
The 20-year-old Heytmer Captained the West Indies at Under-19 World Cup team and toured Sri Lanka last year with the ‘A’ team. The pugnacious left-hander has one ton and five fifties in 17 First-Class matches and has scored 496 runs in this season’s Regional four-day tournament with four half-centuries, while the 28-year-old Singh has five hundreds and nine fifties from 42 First-Class and enjoyed a productive series with the ‘A’ team. He has scored two fifties so far for the Jaguars in this season’s four-day tournament.
Joseph, the 25-year-old pacer from West Berbice, has recovered from keen injury which forced him out of Guyana’s last two four-day games in Trinidad and Barbados. He had a good tour with the ball with the ‘A’ team to Sri Lanka and has 24 wickets from six four-day games this season and 69 at First-Class level from 24 games.
The 25-year-old Reifer has 10 fifties and 91 wickets from 48 matches at First-class level and is considered Guyana’s best all-rounder and a bit unlucky not have made the ‘A’ team to Sri Lanka. The left-arm seamer so far has 30 wickets and hit 430 runs with two fifties in this season’s four-day tournament.
The Jaguars Squad should see a few more young players added to the squad for this weekend’s match and leading the points table going into their last two games. The final round will start on April 21 when they face the Leewards at Providence.
