The Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Association has registered a strong eight-man team of boxers to
participate in next month’s Caribbean Schoolboys and Junior boxing tournament in Guyana. TTBA president Cecil Forde last week wrote to his Guyana counterpart Steve Ninvalle confirming that the Land of the Hummingbird would be represented at the second edition of the tournament.
The Trinidad team includes Abdul Taylor, Tyrique Hosien, Blessing Waldropt, Denzel Massy, Meshack Thomas, Nyrell Hosein, Juan Rodriguez and Edwin Felix. The Caribbean Schoolboys and Junior tournament is scheduled to be held at the National Gymnasium from May 12 to 14. Trinidad joins Barbados, St Lucia, Jamaica and Suriname as countries that have confirmed participation.
The tournament had its first edition in Guyana last year April after regional administrators called for more focus to be placed on the nursery of the sport. It is expected that over eight countries would be participating in the event which is organized by the Guyana Boxing Association.
Meanwhile, the GBA has scheduled a Pepsi Under-16 contest for this weekend at the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis Gym in Albouystown. The competition would be used to select a squad to be encamped for the Caribbean tournament. Among those expected to be on show is the talented Shaquincy Wright of the Vergenoogen Boxing Gym, formerly the Essequibo Boxing Gym.
