A goat herd is now counting his losses after his goats were impounded. He is unable to
get them released.
Twenty-nine year old farmer, Ashab Bacchus, of Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, said that since last week three of his goats went missing.
After he could not locate them in the backlands he conducted a further search. He was later made aware that his animals were impounded at the Sisters Police Station.
“I couldn’t find three ah meh goats so meh been and look fuh them. Then somebody tell me them in the pound”
The farmer said that he visited the station the next morning. “When meh guh to the station meh see one a meh goat lie down dead. Blood been bleed out he nose all”, said Bacchus.
The man suspected that the animal was beaten and taken to the pound. However, he decided to meet with the police officer in charge of the station, pay the pound fee and have them released.
But on every occasion Bacchus visited the station for his animals to be released he was told to return the following day.
“Four times meh guh fuh pay and get me goats them and dem tell me to come back, how the corporal nah deh”, stated the disgruntled farmer.
Kaieteur News understands that on the fifth occasion that Bacchus visited the station he met the corporal but was disappointed. The goatherd was told to pay pound fees. The farmer said, “When I reach the corporal she tell me I ga pay for all three goats even the dead one or I can’t get the other two”.
Bacchus is now baffled as to his next step since he is already at a loss. He questioned, “Why me ga pay fuh a dead goat”.
The distraught man is calling on the authorities to look into the matter and have his goats released. He is willing to pay for only two goats. He further mentioned that the goat that is now dead values over $60,000 since it was a South African breed from the Guyana School of Agriculture. The animals are still impounded at Sisters Police Station.
