A team led by West Indies batter Shemaine Campbell beat a side led West Indies fast bowling
all rounder Tremayne Smartt yesterday at Bourda by 77 runs in the first practice game to pick the Guyana team to participate in this year’s Regional Women’s 50 overs tournament on April 20 in St Vincent.
Batting first on a slow track in hot conditions, Campbell’s X1 reached 184-7 when their 50 overs expired with Lashana Toussaint hitting three fours in an attractive 74. She got support from Shrica Campbell who finished unbeaten on 30, while Latoya Smith contributed 21.
Skipper Smartt took 2-38 but her side could only reached 107-8 innings closed with 16 overs remaining with Smartt, in a useful all-round performance, top scoring with 39 decorated with five boundaries.
Melanie Henry stroked a couple of fours in her 34 as Sheneta Grimmond captured 3-16 and Erva Giddings claimed 2-19.
Off-spinner Plaffiana Millington suffered a split web on her bowling hand after dropping a stiff return catch in her first over to give Toussaint a reprieve and could not bat. Diana Prahalall also did not bat.
According to Chairman of the Guyana selectors Rayon Griffith the team which depart for St Vincent on April 16, should be picked by this week. Another game is fixed for Tuesday at Bourda. (Sean Devers)
