-Masters and Sir Leon square off for third place
By Rawle Welch
Today’s final of this year’s Milo 18 and under Schools Football Tournament is anticipated to provide a riveting conclusion to what has been described in many quarters as the best in the event’s history.
The competition in today’s final and third place encounters promises to be keenly contested in keeping with the trend of the tournament.
The two combatants, defending champion Chase Academy and Morgan’s Learning Centre will square off, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, in what is touted to be a big showdown between two teams that are well equipped to supply fans with an eyeful of talent and skills.
The teams reached the championship game in contrasting style with the reigning champion Chase Academy convincing 2-0 winners over a tough Sir Leon Lessons, while Morgan’s Learning Centre got away with a controversial 2-1 triumph over a steely Masters Academy.
Chase Academy a team laden with players who’ve played at the highest level locally should start as favourites to retain the title, but the wise thing to do is not to underestimate the opposition.
Just as he had done in last year’s Digicel final when he netted the winning goal from a wonderfully struck free kick, the skilful Job Caesar was on hand again to take his team in the final with two cracking efforts and must be feeling confident ahead of today’s clash.
Caesar is one of the brightest young talents in the country and clearly someone with the ability to make a difference at any stage of the time.
Then you have players the calibre of Ryan Hackett, Nicholas McArthur, Reshawn Rich, Jeremy Garrett and Malachi Adonis, all capable of being match winners.
They also boost one of the best defences in the tournament and this strength combined with their efficiency in offense make them a formidable foe and difficult to defeat.
On the other hand, Morgan’s Learning Centre have looked a well balanced side, but could they maintain their focus against a strong side like Chase Academy for the duration of the match is the question that everyone is asking.
They too possess players rated very high at the junior level some of who are very familiar with the style and ability of players from the other side.
David Coates, Orin Moore, Osafo Matheson, Adrian Adolph, Chris Macey, Daniel Clarke and Lionel Holder are all very good players capable of winning matches so it will be interesting to see how they perform in front of the anticipated large turnout.
The semi-finals saw a huge gathering and that scenario must have eased the nervousness of the Morgan’s side that is unaccustomed to playing in front of such a crowd.
Chase Academy have grown accustomed to such a noisy atmosphere and obviously would have settled their nerves if any much quicker.
Both teams have a very large fan base so the atmosphere is expected to be electric with supporters from both sides rooting for their respective teams.
In the playoff for third place, Masters Academy and Sir Leon Lessons square off in what is also expected to be a scorching affair.
Calvin Peters, Akeem Giddings and Tyrone Khan are the key to victory for Masters Academy, while Sir Leon Lessons chances of winning rest on the performances of Omari Jmaes, Meshach Barratt, Dexter Blue, Tyrese Forde and Adrian Aaron.
At stake is $500,000 and the championship trophy for the winners, while second, third and fourth placed finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively to go towards projects for the institutions benefit.
Kick off time is 17:00hrs.
