Entries are expected to be closed today and with less than a week to go before race date the excitement has built to fever pitch for the Guyana Cup fever horserace meet slated for this Sunday 16 April (Easter Sunday) at the Port
Mourant Turf Club, Port Mourant Corentyne Berbice. The meet, which will be held in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing stables, has so far attracted over 60 entries with owners racing forward to beat the deadline.
The venue is in tip top shape with all ingredients being put in place for the mega event and what is expected to be a pulsating and action packed day of racing.
Close to $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives are at stake in the eight races meet in what is the richest race meet for the year so far.
The feature B1 and lower 1900M event will see the animals racing for the $1M winning take and trophy.
The E1 & Lower 1200M West Indies bred non earners event is for 2016 and 2017 and E3 US and Canadian bred non earners for that period has $600,000 winners’ money and trophy on offer.
There is an event for G3 and lower animals and those West Indian bred over 4-years and older for a pole position taking of $300,000 and trophy.
The ‘H3 and lower gallop is for a first prize of $275,000and trophy.
The ‘I’ 1 and Lower race will also cater for 3 years old Guyana bred animals and has a winning pocket of $225,000 and trophy.
Meanwhile, there is a special event for Guyana bred three years old maiden horses for a winning take of $220,000 and trophy.
The event for J2 and lower animals is for a winning purse of $175,000 and trophy, while the
L and lower event will see the winner getting $130,000 and trophy.
All the top runners in the country is expected to participate with animals such as – Princess She Not, C.P Got Even, Jack In My Style, Keep On Swinging, Golden Blue Echo, Lady Budapest, Brave Sky, Spit Fire, Just call me Boss, Release the Beast, Super Bowl, Cat Messiah, Settling Star, Sweet Return, Isn’t She Charming, Firing Line, Big Man Boss, Goodwill Boy, Light UP Canada, Campador, Red and Lovely and Its My Choice, T and T, Slim Shady, Bird Man, Party Time, Red Jet, Red Region among others already entered.
Top horses, stables and jockeys will be awarded compliments of Ramesh Sunich’s Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
A number of added attractions and incentives including free kites will be given away on race day. There will also be bouncy castle, trampoline and other attractions for children.
Free programmes will be made available to patrons and fans, while Banks DIH Limited will be having on the spot promotions.
Musical entertainment will be by supplied by Thunder Bolt Sound System which will be on hand for the grand after party and wash down.
