..in court on charges of assaulting husband
A woman was evicted from a property she shared with her husband following a High Court order by Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The woman, Lilian Latiff ,and her estranged husband Abdul Latiff were in court battling over the sale of the Bel Air property for which an order to sell was granted by Chief Justice (ag) Roxane George so that Mr. Latiff could get his half share.
Proceeds from the sale will be lodged with the Registrar of the High Court.
According to information, in 2016 Mrs. Latiff was granted a stay on the basis that she wanted to buy the property. However, this was overruled by the Judge who cited that the woman ignored four offers made to her to buy the property.
Before the court’s ruling the woman and her husband had been residing in the same property but in separate apartments. Mrs. Latiff is currently before the courts on charges of assault over spitting on her 89-year-old husband and dousing him with hot water.
Kaieteur News understands that in one instance the woman spat on her husband while he was outside conversing with a technician from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T). She is said to have thrown the hot substance on her husband while he was carrying out the garbage.
Reports indicate that after committing the acts, Mrs. Latiff would evade police by locking herself in the house and refusing to answer police when they are summoned.
However, swift actions by ranks at the Kitty Police Station led to her apprehension.
She is out on bail in relation to these charges.
