The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club on Monday last received a major boost from long serving sponsor Republic Bank (Guy) Ltd. in the form of sponsorship for a 16-team Under-19 cricket tournament, across Berbice.
Republic Bank (Guy) Ltd Rose Hall Town Manager Harry Dass Ghaness hands over sponsorship to RHTY&SC Asst Organising Manager, Rabindranauth Kissoonlall.
The tournament would be played under the Club’s highly successful Say NO/Say YES Outreach Programme. Republic Bank, Rose Hall Town Branch Manager Harry Dass Ghaness officially launched the tournament by handing the sponsorship cheque worth $145,000 the club’s Assistant Organising Secretary, Rabindranath Kissoonlall.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster hailed the successful and long standing relationship between the two organisations and described the Bank as a true friend to Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation.
Republic Bank, he stated is one of the main reasons why the club is the only of its kind to have ever received a National Award. Among the clubs expected to participate in teh 40-overs competition are Blairmont, Bush Lot, Tucker Park, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Town, Kendall Union, Big Star and Toopoo. Game time would be 11:00hrs.
Teams would be required to provide evidence of their player’s date of birth if so required. The cut-off date of birth is on or after the 1st of September, 1998. Foster explained that the RHTY&SC Cricket Development Committee and the Say No/Say Yes Campaign Sub-Committee would be using the tournament as a vehicle to encourage youths to Say NO to Drugs, Suicide, Crime, Alcohol and Yes to Life, Education and Sports.
He said that the passion for cricket is on the decline in Berbice because of the state of West Indies and internal cricket politics in Berbice, stating that the club was committed to lifting the standard of the game in the ancient county once again.
The winning team would take home $40,000 and a trophy while the runner-up would receive $25,000 and trophy. Other prizes would go to the Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Man of the Final.
Teams in the competition are reminded that they would be disqualified if they play any overaged player while no form of indiscipline would be tolerated. Spectators are also reminded that the use of alcohol would not be encouraged at matches especially at the semi-finals and final.
