Assists All-Rounder Sports Club
Led by brilliant performances from the talented Kevlon Anderson and left arm spinner Keith Simpson, Rose Hall Town Pepsi Intermediate team easily defeated the All-Rounder Sports Club of West Bank Demerara by 67 runs to lift the Farouk Kudrath Memorial Trophy.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground on Sunday last, Anderson continued his rich run of form by stroking a majestic 95 not out while Berbice junior cricketer Keith Simpson claimed 5-9 from 6.2 overs.
The match was played in memory of the late Farouk Kudrath, former Assistant Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club. Kudrath who served for eight years died in July, 2008 and was one of the main persons who worked beyond the call of duty to make the Club what it is today.
RHT Pepsi winning the toss and batting first, lost national junior player Kevin Sinclair bowled by A. Shadprasad for 1 at 9-1 in the 2nd over but Anderson and former national junior cricketer Brandon Prashad added 62 for the 2nd wicket before Prashad was dismissed for a well-played 31. Anderson then batted with great concentration to anchor the innings as wickets fell around him to leave the RHT Pepsi 120 for 7.
He found a reliable partner in former Berbice Under-15 player Brandon Corlette and the pair added 60 for the 8th wicket off 12 overs to lead the RHT Pepsi to 180-7 off their allotted 35 overs.
Anderson ended undefeated on 95 (6×4 2×6) while Corlette was unbeaten on 21 with two boundaries. Bowling for the visitors, T. Shadprasad claimed 3-48 from 7 overs while Timor Mohammed took 2-18.
Needing to score 181 runs from 35 overs to claim the title, the West Bank Demerara team were dismissed for 113 off 26.1 overs as only V. Jaigobin 32 and B. Budhoo 14 reached double figures, extras contributed 19.
Jaigobin struck four boundaries and a six in an attractive innings. Simpson, one of the most promising junior cricketers of the RHTY&SC ended 5-19 from 6.2 overs received support from medium pacer Jamal Jarvis 2-16 from seven and spinner Kevin Sinclair 2-17 from 5 overs.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster in handing over the Farouk Kudrath Memorial Trophy to RHT Pepsi Captain Shawn Perriera stated that the club strongly believes in honouring its heroes and Kudrath was one of its best.
Meanwhile, in Kudrath’s memory, the Pepsi Intermediate team handed over a quantity of items to the All Rounder Sports Club. The items included a complete set of stumps, three trophies and six medals, scorebooks, wicket keeping gloves, educational materials and one hundred hand towels.
The female members of the touring party and children also received special gifts. The trophies and medals would be used by the Club to host a Say NO/Say YES Cricket Tournament. Foster at the simple presentation ceremony stated that the club was delighted to assist fellow clubs across Guyana to fulfil their mandate and out of a genuine concern to make sure that sports is used as a vehicle to get youths away from drugs and crime.
Speaking on behalf of the All Rounder Sports Club, Team Manager Mr. Bharrat praised the outstanding work of the RHTY&SC over the years and noted that it was a role model organisation that needed to be emulated. The All Rounder Sports Club, he stated was playing only its third match since it was reorganised and expressed gratitude to the RHTY&SC for their donation.
He said that although they lost the match, they felt victorious as Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation has inspired them to do so much more in their home village.
