He is undoubtedly the most prized property in local motor racing, a status gained after dominating both the traditional segment and now karting and Guyana’s Kristian Jeffrey understands that this value should not be taken
lightly.
He is also quite aware that such a significant distinction the burden of responsibility comes with it and that is why he places a premium on preparations not only physically, but technically as well.
Jeffrey has over the past three years developed his craft to such a level that he is arguably the best motor racer in the Caribbean and his astonishing rise to the top is by no means a stroke of luck.
His introduction to the sport of motor racing has been methodical, thorough and expensive, but that was the price his father Kevin was willing to pay to take him to the next level and no one could refute the fact that it is paying off.
The easy going racing star will be competing in tonight’s Georgetown Grand Prix which is being organised by GT Motorsports at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club and the expectation of more success is high.
The two-time Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) title holder is coming off a terrific performance at last Sunday’s ‘Race of Champions’ Meet where he won all three of his races so he should be feeling extremely confident of doing well again tonight.
Despite the difference in machines and challenges, Jeffrey has been able to make the transition quite smoothly and has extended his dominance to the karts. In the inaugural event in February, Jeffrey swept aside every challenge that came from Trinidad & Tobago in Ravi Singh, Canada’s Daryl Timmers, Barbados’ Orry Hunte and local boy Stefan Jeffrey to secure the champion driver award after coasting to victories in all three races.
This time though another driver that he is very familiar with will be present and his name is Kristian Boodoosingh out of the Twin Island Republic and no stranger to Jeffrey, having had a few bruising battles with him in the CMRC.
Jeffrey, who claims to love competition, is never one to back down from a duel so immediately you get the picture of what it will be like tonight when he faces his rivals who no doubt will be aiming to curtail his authority on the sport.
Jeffrey, who clocked the fastest lap time of 29.261s at the previous Grand Prix is brimming with confidence and will be hard to beat. And judging from some of the practices sessions and the times recorded, Boodoosingh and company might be battling for the minor podium spots.
Meanwhile, among the categories to be contested are: 60cc, 125cc Junior, 125cc Senior, 4-Stroke Light, 4-Stroke Heavy, Shifter karts and the Easy Cup Rookies.
