A 33-year-old construction worker was on Wednesday released on bail after being indicted in the
Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for fraud.
Claudius Peters of Lot 156 First Street, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him by the Magistrate.
Particulars of the charges leveled against the construction worker stated that on July 17, 2015 in Georgetown having received the sum of $274,000 from Damillie Wilson to construct the lower flat of her home, he converted the money to his own use and benefits.
It was further alleged that that on August 2, 2016 in Georgetown having received $282,500 from Damallie Wilson again to construct the lower flat of her home, he converted the money to his own use and benefits.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that the defendant was willing to repay the victim and that he had in his possession $100,000 to give her.
Peters also requested three months to repay the virtual complainant since he is currently unable to work due to injuries he sustained in an accident.
Peters was ordered to pay $50,000 on the spot. He will make his next court appearance on April 14.
