Loraine Springer, 56, of 425 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme was yesterday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore for having in her possession three .38 rounds of ammunition without being the owner of a firearm licence.
It was further alleged that Springer also had in her possession two grams of narcotics.
Springer pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to her by the Magistrate.
The woman was represented by Attorneys-at-Law Melville Duke and Bernard Da Silva.
Attorney Duke argued that the ammunition was not found in his client’s possession and that she shared a three-bedroom apartment. He said that at the time of the discovery, multiple persons were residing at the same address.
The attorney further stressed that his client was incarcerated since last Thursday.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant. However, Springer was remanded to prison for the illegal ammunition possession. Bail was granted in the sum of $25,000 for the possession of narcotics.
The mother of two will make her next court appearance on May 3.
