A number of clashes are expected when the annual Guyana “Cup Cup Fever” horserace meet races off on Sunday 16th April at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice. The event is organised by the Jumbo Jet Auto sales and racing stables in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The eight race meet has over $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs and is already setting tongues wagging as turfites can’t wait to witness the feature clashes expected to unfold. One such race will see the eagerly awaited return to the track of the much vaunted Princess She Not and C.P Got Even as they thrown down the gauntlet against the like of Golden Blue Echo, Lady Budapest, Brave Sky, Spit Fire and Just call me Boss among others in the feature B1 and lower event for a winning take of $1M over 1900M.
There is an interesting race for animals classified E1 and lower West Indies bred non earners for 2016 and 2017 and E3 US and Canadian bred non earners for 2016 and 2017 over 1200M for a first prize of $600,000 and trophy over 1200M.
Horses such as of Cat Messiah, Super Bowl, Sweet Return, Isn’t She Charming and Big Man Boss are expected to enter in the event for 4-year-old West Indies bred and G3 and lower horses for a winner’s money of $300,000.
Most of the horses entered in the G3 race and others are expected to reenter the event for animals classified H3 and lower with the likes of Cat Messiah, Super Bowl, Sweet Return, Isn’t She Charming, T and T, Big Man Boss among others will be looking to see who is boss. The last two times some of these horses raced, the event ended in dead heats and controversy and the animals will be using the occasion to end all doubts as they race for the $275,000 first prize and trophy.
Horses classified 3 years old bred and born in Guyana and those classified I 1and lower will be competing for first prize of $225,000 and trophy.
There is an event for Guyana bred three years maiden horses for a winning take of $220,000 and trophy.
Animals classified J2 and K will be racing for a pole position taking of $175,000 and trophy.
The final race will see the horses classified L class Open galloping for a take home incentive of $130,000 and trophy. All the top stables in the country have ink their names to be a part of the programme with a number of them having multiple entries. A packed and exciting day of racing is anticipated.
Top horses, stables and jockeys will be awarded with trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich, of Bourda Market.
A number of added attractions and incentives including free kites will be given away on race day. There will also be bouncy castle, trampoline and other attractions for children.
