Part of the action between defending champion Chase Academy and Sir Leon Lessons yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground.
Heavily favoured Chase Academy and Morgan’s Learning Centre were made to fight for their respective final berths in this year’s Milo 18 and under Schools Football Competition which continued with semi-final action yesterday, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Two-time reigning champs Chase Academy had to dig deep, before eventually eliminating Sir Leon Lessons from the championship game following a 2-0 win, while Morgan’s Learning Centre escaped with a controversial 2-1 triumph over Masters Academy.
Played before a large crowd, the champs controlled most of the possession in the opening period, but were surprised by the tenacity of their opponents and went to the break with the game deadlocked at nil-all.
However, just as he had done in the Digicel final, Job Caesar made the difference with his skill and pace, netting both goals to hand his team a place in the final.
Caesar, who registered a brace, started his goal search in the 67th minute when he ran on to a perfectly weighted pass delivered from the right side to uncork a scorching shot into the roof of the net.
He then netted a beauty when he sprinted on to a pass from the left side this time, used his superior speed to leave two defenders in his wake, before firing past the goalkeeper in the 91st minute to seal their spot in the final.
In the other semi-final, Daniel Floyd and Chris Macey scored goals in the 18th and 49th minute respectively to lead Morgan’s Learning Centre to a tight 2-1 victory over Masters Academy.
Marion Eastman was the lone player to respond for Masters Academy when he netted 80th minute.
However, the game was not without dispute as an 85th minute goal for Masters Academy was disallowed by the referee after it was alleged that there was a handball infringement.
The final and third place playoff is set for Sunday, April 9, at the same venue at 17:00hrs.
The winner will take home $500,000 to go towards a school project and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth placed teams will collect $300,000,$200,000 and $100,000 respectively for a project of the schools’ choice.
