Considered one of the pre-tournament favourites, Sir Leon Lessons were made to fight
for dear life, before securing a narrow 4-3 triumph on penalty kicks after their quarter final clash against a stubborn Bishop’s High ended in a 0-0 draw, at the completion of regulation yesterday.
Playing in the opening game of a doubleheader in this year’s Milo 18 and under Schools Football Competition at the Ministry of Education ground, Sir Leon Lessons were very fortunate not to lose in regulation time after Tyrone Singh’s 86th minute penalty sailed over the crossbar much to the dismay of his teammates and supporters.
In the penalty shootout, Bishop’s High Jordan Kellman netted first, before Omari James equalised for Sir Leon Lessons.
Keith Cort and Tyrese Forde kept the contest tied as they scored for Bishop’s High and Sir Leon Lessons respectively.
Bishop’s High Shemar Britton then missed his effort, before Richard Rayside netted to give Sir Leon Lessons a 3-2 lead.
Tyrone Singh scored to level the fixture, before Adrian Aaron netetd for Sir Leon to preserve their lead.
Needing to score to stay in contention, Imran Khan’s effort was saved by the opposing goalkeeper to hand Sir Leon Lessons victory.
In the other game, Morgan Learning Centre demolished Carmel Secondary 11-0.
David Coates registered a helmet-trick in the 38th, 67th, 77th and 79th minutes. He was assisted by doubles from Osafo Matheson in the sixth and 32nd minutes and a Chris Macey in the 47th and 63rd minutes.
Adrian Adolph, Daniel Clarke and Orin Moore supported with a goal apiece in the first, 43rd and 49th minutes respectively.
The competition continues today at the same venue with the final two quarterfinal fixtures.
Masters Academy take on Buxton Youth Developers at 13:00hrs, while defending champion Chase Academy engage Pure Masters at 15:00hrs.
