– victim calls it “freak accident”
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Wilfred Tennyson
called ‘Fred’, a 29 year old businessman of Adventure, Essequibo Coast. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime around 01:00 hrs yesterday at the victim’s establishment.
Tennyson was reportedly shot by a 32-year-old Supernumerary Constable attached to a private security firm. The man is said to also be a resident of Adventure.
Police investigations revealed that at the time of the incident, the male suspect was armed with a 9mm handgun belonging to the security firm. The suspect then left his post and ventured into ‘Fred Tennyson Off License Liquor Store’, and engaged in a game of pool with him. The Police believe that an argument may have erupted between the two men over the game, thus leading to the shooting of Tennyson.
Tennyson told this publication, however, that the incident was just a mere ‘freak accident.’
He explained that he is a close friend of the suspect and was engaged in a friendly game of pool, and “though it was a competitive game, no argument erupted between us”.
Tennyson further stated that it was after he locked up his shop that he invited his friend inside for a game of pool. He recalled that “during the game Randy pulled out his firearm, pointed it in my direction, and humorously said that he gonna win the next game”. Seconds later, a round was fired, hitting Tennyson in the right side of his abdomen and exiting, before lodging in a concrete wall. The suspect initially panicked before rushing Tennyson to the Suddie Public Hospital.
The victim’s condition remains stable.
The alleged shooter has been taken into police custody and the firearm has been lodged. (Romario Blair)
