The Kendall Union Sports Club (KUSC) recently held their inaugural awards and presentation ceremony at the Club’s headquarters at No.19 Village, East Coast, Berbice. The function was to award outstanding and long
serving members for their contribution to cricket and the community development in general.
Among the speakers were President of the Berbice Volleyball Association Levi Nedd, Gervy Harry of the National Sports Commission, Anil Beharry former President of The BCB and NBS Senior Manager, Sports Officer Gladwin Allicock and NDC Chairman Budhram.
They all congratulated the club for rising to the occasion and its achievements during the years. The club was also congratulated for being among the few that recognizes its members for their achievements and contribution.
Those receiving awards were Joshua Tayah – ‘A’ Team player of the year, Fazil Gobin, ‘B’ team player of the year, U-19 player of the year Vishal Goberdhan, most improved player Rakesh Kallicharran and most disciplined player Devan Persaud.
Long serving awards were presented to Anil Beharry, Harripaul Guyanand, Deodat Guyanand, Rudolph Baker and Shivlall Serkissoon.
President of the club Mr. Albert Budhoo in his remarks highlighted some of the achievements of the club during the year and plans for the coming year and the future.
The club has two cricket teams and a volleyball team that participate in competitions. Efforts are being made to have cricket teams at all levels to represent the club. Efforts are also being made to have the club participate in other sporting activities.
Among some of the immediate plans according to Budhoo are the drafting of a constitution for the club, getting the club registered with the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) and the Ministry of Youth Culture and Sports.
Improving the general infrastructure at the venue including the ground- clearing, cleaning, painting the pavilion, erecting new gate and sign at the venue and have running water at the facility.
Other activities done for the year and will be held again this year are the hosting their annual senior citizen day. Holding a number of fund raising activities including a weekend lime and the annual 5/5 tournament at the venue.
A number of social activities for members will be held including fun day at the No 63 beach and at the club venue.
Continuing the prize giving ceremony to the top five students of the Bohemia Primary School, including school supplies medals and electronic gadgets a walkway was also built at the school.
The club’s cricket and volleyball teams received a number of uniforms and gear.
