Overseer of the Charity Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC), Samuel Sooklall, has expressed his disappointment in the way he was addressed by the Region Two chairman, Davenand Ramdatt.
Overseer, Samuel Sooklall, said that last Wednesday he was invited by the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) to attend the launch of MARAD’s administrative office in Charity. Samuel said that upon entering the office he was insulted by the Chairman of Region Two, Davenand Ramdatt, who publicly claimed that “the staff of the NDC is always late for every occasion, and because of their lack of punctuality, they failed to put the Maritime administration office in the old hospital.”
Samuel Sooklall finds this statement to be both overrated and misleading since the NDC was unaware, and had nothing to do with MARAD’s decision to establish their office in the mall.
This publication understands that an agreement was made between the Charity NDC and director of MARAD, John Flores. The agreement outlined that the old hospital would be used to house the Maritime’s office, however the office is now being housed in the mall instead.
The NDC Chairman, Mrs. Deatrice Mittelholzer explained that “Flores told her MARAD would use the WD mall instead. “They were told that the hospital would soon be demolished.”
Deatrice Mittelholzer said that no decision was made to demolish the old hospital since it is currently housing the Guyana Forestry Commission, a photocopy studio, a pharmacy, the NDC boardroom and the E-Government hub. She further stated that requests were made by the NDC for the old hospital building to be renovated, not demolished.
Samuel and Mittelholzer believe that the chairman only made his statement to publicly belittle the Charity NDC. They further noted that the chairman had no right to make such a statement since the NDC is governed under the Ministry of Communities and not the Chairman.
