A bus conductor was remanded to prison on a robbery under arms charge when he appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, on Monday y.
Shawn Kansinally, 27, of Lot 247 East Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme, Georgetown denied the charge which alleged that on November 2, 2016 at Cummings Street, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, robbed Delisa Barnes Dixon of two gold chains valued $120,000.
Kansinally was represented by Attorney-at-Law Jed Vasconcellos who told the court that his client was picked up by the police on the route 47 bus Park.
The attorney added that his client was never placed on an identification parade and he certainly did not know Barnes-Dixon.
Vasconcellos told the court that his client is the sole breadwinner for his family and asked that he be released on reasonable bail.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves opposed to bail being granted to the defendant, citing the serious nature of the offense and the penalty it attracted.
The prosecutor further told the court that Kansinally was positively identified by the Barnes-Dixon.
Bail was denied by the Magistrate and the father of two will make his next court appearance on April 10.
