After the continuous rejection of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to grant bail to Haleno Luiz, the
Brazilian pastor who was charged over a month ago with a road fatality, Attorney Mark Waldron was able to secure bail for his client from a Judge.
Luiz, 35, a senior pastor at the Universal Church Kingdom of God is accused of driving motor van PPP 4765 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Maurice Moseley on March 3, at Smyth and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown.
Attorney Mark Waldron, yesterday, disclosed that his client was granted bail by a judge at the High Court in Georgetown last week Friday. However, Waldron did not state in what amount bail was set.
This causing death by dangerous driving matter is being heard before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who on numerous occasions refused to grant Luiz bail citing that he is a flight risk given the fact that he is a foreign national and had provided police and the court with conflicting addresses.
Police is contending that Moseley, formerly of Lot 235 Lamaha Park, East LaPenitence was riding his motorcycle along Sheriff Street collided with the van being driven by Luiz after it failed to stop at the intersection.
It was reported that the pastor was proceeding at a fast rate of speed. Based on information received, the pastor has been residing in Guyana for the past three years.
