Three years after being accused of sexually molesting a teen at a New Amsterdam orphanage which he supervised, accused Mohamed Deen was told that the matter was thrown out of the New Amsterdam Magistrate court.
Magistrate Alex Moore dismissed the matter after reviewing the case following representation by attorney at law Mursalene Bacchus.
The matter had never quite gotten started, since Deen’s accuser subsequently changed his story.
The genesis of the matter came about during May 2014, after Deen who was the Manager of the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage at Philadelphia Street, New Amsterdam, was accused by one of the children there of molesting and sodomising him.
Deen, who was a former resident of the institution, had been living there since the inception. Following the allegation, he was arrested, charged and placed on $200,000 bail in the Magistrate’s Court.
During the time of his incarceration, Deen was not examined and no statement taken from him.
The alleged victim had given a report that he was molested on May 23, 2013. He had subsequently denied that he was molested by Deen.
It was later alleged that that the boy had not slept at the Orphanage on the night in question.
It was also reported by other residents of the institution that the alleged victim rode out of the compound around the time of prayers and headed towards Vryheid, West Canje.
He returned the following day and left later the afternoon for Scout practice at the Central Police Station, but never went. He was later seen at a game shop in Vryheid.
He was not seen again until the orphanage was contacted by the police about the allegation.
Both the police and the Ministry of Labour were cited for doing a lousy job in investigating the matter, especially since the boy continuously changed his story.
Attorney at law Mursalene Bacchus filed actions in the High Court seeking full disclosures in the matter.
Also, during the time the lad and his mother had sworn to a written affidavit that he was never sexually assaulted or molested by Deen. That affidavit was sent, among others, to the DPP and a senior police official.
The lad had also given two written statements to the police denying that he was sexually assaulted by Deen and that it was a set up. He was promised $250,000 to do the act.
Deen is now contemplating legal action against those responsible for the indignation he suffered.
