The Cyril Potter College of Education-New Amsterdam Centre held a two-day display of teaching and learning aids. The programme ended on Friday. The display was based on curriculum materials designed to teach various
concepts particularly literacy and numeracy at Nursery and Primary Schools respectively.
As part of the two-year Associate Degree programme offered at the institution, this exercise is one that is mandatory.
Head of Centre, Sharon Patterson-Bourne, stated that this display is essential for the completion of the course. “This part is a requirement for the completion of the Associate’s Degree Programme, “ said Patterson-Bourne.
These presentations allow trainee-teachers to capture grades for the course ‘Individual Study’. The teachers in training were asked to identify a ‘topic’ that posed difficulty to learners at the various schools they are attached to and create teaching/learning materials that catered for the varying level of learners to remedy the problem identified.
According to reports, 44 trainee teachers took part in the activity. After conducting the study individually, teachers laid out their teaching materials at the centre for display and to be assessed.
On Thursday, trainees at the Nursery level had their kit displayed and on Friday, Primary School trainees displayed theirs.
The Head Of the Centre said that the two-day activity was a successful one. She is satisfied with the presentations. “I am very pleased with what I saw over those two days. The presentations were really good”, stated Bourne.
The CPCE also offers a One-year Associate’s Degree in Education programme. These Associate Degree programmes were introduced in 2010.
