Gopaul Sewsankar yesterday appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga to answer to the charge of murder committed on his teen brother on Sunday evening.
Gopaul Sewsankar, also known as ‘Romel’, 23, of Lot 85 Yakusari North Black Bush Polder was not required to plead to the indictable charge on Thursday.
The charge read that on March 20, last Sewsankar fatally stabbed his brother Vishal Sahora, 18, also of Lot 85 Yakusari North Black Bush Polder.
Sewsankar was unrepresented when he appeared in court and was ordered to return to court on May 16, next after he was remanded.
According to reports, Sahora, another sibling, the accused and a friend of Sahora, whose name was given as Permaul Sookram were imbibing under Sookram’s house, when the suspect approached Sahora requesting to borrow his motorcycle.
Sahora refused and Sewsankar then allegedly dealt him a slap. A scuffle erupted between them; Samuel and Sookram intervened but were shoved aside.
The suspect then whipped out a knife he had in his possession and stabbed Sahora to the chest and ran away. He subsequently returned and allegedly kicked Sahora to his abdomen.
Sewsankar once more fled the scene but was shortly after arrested by the police.
The incident occurred around 23:00 hrs on Sunday. Sahora was rushed to the Mibicuri Public Hospital where he succumbed around 1 am on Monday while receiving medical attention.
