Dear Editor,
I see the proverbial hyenas are circling. The issue over the purchase of drugs for the Health Sector is getting politically noisy. All in all, I wish to state categorically, that I applaud Minister Lawrence’s stance on the situation. Let us fly over the procurement procedure and look at the results —poor people can now fill their prescriptions at the Hospital’s pharmacy. Whom the drugs were sourced from should not be the problem. The Minister is in the business of saving lives and she has set about to do just that.
Backup a bit to the past administration, and their procurement processes. Were they above board? No! The rich got richer while the poor died for want of proper drugs and other basic treatments. Is anyone even remembering when the Health system was infiltrated with expired drugs that were also very expensive? A past CEO of the GPHC knows about the destruction of millions of dollars in expired drugs when the media got wind of the situation. Was anyone sanctioned for that? Again, NO! Corruption at GPHC was the order of the day in the past Administration. Were the forensic audits enough? Or were the size of the icebergs willfully overlooked. Also, since when are we listening to the likes of Leslie Ramsammy, Bheri Ramsaran and Nandlall? These people are so tainted their best bet is to shut up. Which Minister of Health spent millions to purchase spy equipment? Was this equipment for use in the hospital’s theatre? Or the wards?
Dear Minister Lawrence, your job now is like cleaning the Augean stables, but we the poor patients are grateful to you for your effort. You have put us as priorities as our lives are important to you. Continue the good work! Some people have to make noises to remind themselves that they are alive.
