A brother and sister were on Wednesday arraigned before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to three charges.
It is alleged that on March 17, last, at Block “E” South Sophia, Georgetown, Abendigo Bancroft, 32 and Chavel Bancroft, 32, both had in their possession a 9 mm pistol without being licensed firearm holders.
It is also alleged that on the same day in question the two had in their possession three 9mm rounds without being licensed firearm holders.
The last charge read that they had in their possession 12 grams of narcotics.
The siblings pleaded not guilty to all the charges after they were read to them by the Magistrate.
They were both represented by Attorney- at- Law Dexter Todd who in his bail application for the number two defendant told the court that she is a hair dresser by profession and has never been in any other court before.
Todd further stated that on the day in question when the police carried out a search on the premises, Chavel was in the living room of the Lot 19 Block E South Sophia home when she was asked to point to her room.
The police then went and conducted a search in her room and found nothing.
Todd further stated that there are multiple persons residing at the address, since it is family property and the items could have belonged to anyone.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne, however objected to bail for both defendants citing the serious nature of the offence and the gravity and penalty the offence attracts.
Facts presented by the Prosecutor stated that on the day in question around 22:30 hrs police acting on information went to the home of the defendants and conducted a search.
Payne told the court that police officers found a black plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics on a glass table in the living room.
The court heard that a further search was conducted in the bedrooms in the house and the gun and ammunitions were discovered in a clothes basket in one of the bed rooms.
The prosecutor further stated that the number one defendant when questioned about the findings stated that he found the gun and decided to keep it. When asked about the narcotics he stated that he used the narcotics to smoke.
They were both arrested and taken to the Kitty Police station. Abendigo was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 for the possession of narcotics and remanded for the possession of the gun and ammunition.
Meanwhile Chavel Bancroft was granted $150,000 each for the possession of gun and ammunition and $75,000 for the possession of narcotics.
They both will make their next court appearance on April 12 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
