A Police officer was yesterday among three men who were remanded to prison for trafficking cocaine, after they were arraigned before City Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The first charge read that on March 17 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport(CJIA), East Bank Demerara, 21-year-old Louie Dublin, a Police officer attached to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), had in his possession 558 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Dublin pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by the Magistrate. Dublin was represented by Attorney-at-Law Adrian Thompson who told the court that his client had no knowledge of what was inside of the bag that was given to him, since the bag was sealed.
Facts presented by Police prosecutor Sanj Singh stated that on the day in question, members of the Police force carried out a sting operation at the Lotus Restaurant and Bar which is located at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Dublin was searched and the cocaine was found in his possession.
Singh further stated that when Dublin was arrested, he gave the police a caution statement stating that he was given the bag by two individuals whom he named as Devon Bunbury and Gavin Harris and also apologised for having the substance in his possession.
Dublin was later arrested and charged for the offence.
Meanwhile, in the same court, Devon Bunbury and Gavin Harris, the two men who are accused of giving the bag containing the narcotics to Dublin were also charged.
The charge read that Devon Bunbury and Gavin Harris on March, 17,2017, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, both had in their possession 588 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Bunbury, 27, and Harris, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to them by the Magistrate.
Both men were represented by Attorney-at-Law Leslie Benjamin in association with Attorney-at-Law Latchmie Rahamat who asked that her clients be released on bail.
Facts presented by Prosecutor Singh stated that police acting on information went on a sting operation and apprehended the two men at the Lotus Restaurant and Bar which is located at the Cheddi International Airport.
The trio was remanded to prison and will make their next court appearance on April, 10.
