Massy Group of Companies today held an Information Technology Workshop,
where three new programs were launched.
The first is the Microsoft Cloud Services and Solutions, which is basically intended to replace servers widely used in offices across the country.
“Most companies are moving away from buying computers and servers for their IT department…everything is hosted in the cloud…it’s a set of data centre all across the world, so if something happens to your data centre, your document is still stored somewhere else,” Massy’s General Manager, Jason Sahai, told Kaieteur News.
He said that his company is accredited by Microsoft as a silver cloud partner.
“Right now, a person might find that with their IT department, something happens, they might not be able to access a file on the server or something like that. But if you move it to the cloud, you can always access it, as long as you have internet,” Sahai added.
He envisions cloud services dominating Guyana’s IT sector within the next three to five years.
Another programme launched at the Georgetown Marriott Hotel is the Xerox Managed Print
Services. Company representative of Xerox, Martin Sharpe, explained that the implementation of Xerox Managed Print Services is very cost effective.
The goal of the programme is to enable businesses to simplify the way they work, by addressing four key business challenges, including cost management and control, security and compliance, productivity and availability and environmental sustainability.
In short, Sharpe said that the programme basically entails “using fewer printers, printing for less and printing less.”
He said that with this system, persons can focus more on executing their tasks, as opposed to taking up time to fix printers related issues.
Additionally, it was highlighted that Xerox Managed Print Services will offer knowledge and information on how to improve workflow and business process automation.
Also launched yesterday, was Fortinet Cyber security Solutions and Entrust Datacard Identity Solutions. With Guyana being at risk of falling prey to cybercrimes, this programme has been deemed a useful tool for the protection against attacks.
The company said that it is moving from smart, to smarter, since automated and human-like attacks will demand more intelligent defence.
“Threats are getting smarter and are increasingly able to operate autonomously. In the coming year, we expect to see malware designed “human-like” with adaptive, success-based learning to improve the impact and efficacy of attacks,” a statement from Fortinet Solutions said.
Representatives from major businesses were present at the IT workshop. They were exposed to detailed presentations of the programmes, with the hope that these might be intriguing enough for them to want to buy into.
Sahai expressed confidence that businesses will recognize the importance of transforming their operations, and will therefore opt to have their businesses be outfitted with the new technologies.
