After a number of weeks of keenly contested basketball action the Rose Hall Town Jammers, the 2015 Anamayah Memorial Basket Ball Champion reclaimed the fourth annual competition and the 2017 edition with an easy
win over New Amsterdam Warriors. The match did not live up to expectation as both teams squandered a lot of points in the Jammers 46-32 victory.
In the game played last Sunday on the Fyrish Basketball Court, Jammers quickly got into their stride as the battle wary Warriors seemed underprepared for the occasion as the Jammers took control early to take a 6-4 lead in the low scoring affair.
The Jammers led the second stanza ended 14-9. They upped their game as the second half began and were all over the limp Warriors as they scored 17 points to the lackluster Warriors 8 and that period ended with the score on 31-17.
There was more competition in the last quarter as both teams tried to up their game. However, with the big lead gained by the Jammers, there was no coming back for the Warriors as both teams scored 15 points apiece as the game ended 46-32 for the easy win for The Rose hall Town Jammers.
Leading the way for the Jammers was Michael King with 12 with David Hope 9, Mickel Lewis 8 while there were 6 each for Kevon Emmanuel and Rayborn Murray.
Romain Fogenay top scored for the Warriors with 13 points, while Kevon Thom and Quincy Mickle scored 5 each.
At the end of the competition, cash incentives and the Anamayah Memorial trophy was presented to the winning Rose Hall Jammers team. The Warriors also received incentives and a trophy. The most valuable player award went to Rayborn Murray, he received a trophy.
The tournament attracted six teams – New Amsterdam Warriors and Smythfield Rockers of New Amsterdam, Hopetown Stealers and Ithaca Hardliners from West Berbice, Fyrish Black Sharks and Rose Hall Jammers from Corentyne. The tournament was coordinated and organised by Vibert Garnett.
From the tournament a squad is expected to be selected to continue training for future tournaments. Coaching and training is expected to continue with help from the parent body in Georgetown. (Samuel Whyte)
