Dear Editor,
There is a rather ugly distasteful, disreputable and disgusting item that has for some time now, not only been a constant and regular feature on the NCN LINDEN TELEVISION STATION, but also – wittingly or unwittingly – has been an affront because of its blind disregard for the people of the TOWN\REGION.
I am referring here to the commonplace vulgar music\video advertisements that citizens are bombarded with whenever various types of entertainment are promoted.
Every so often one is left dumbstruck and taken aback upon viewing the choice of selections that are televised – the most lewd and corruptible, anything goes, the sky is the limit.
And of course as always, it is the women who are center stage and cast in prostitute-like roles; loose, scantily clad and some virtually naked, as they gyrate to seductive music. While the men, equally lascivious and not to be outdone, complement this obscene performance.
Editor, may I point out that these music videos played during these ads are not only from foreign artistes; they are also taken from footage done locally, hot scenes where we match those profane dances\videos. Look, I am not in any way making claim to being self-righteous.
But some of these ads are definitely over the top and should not be allowed, and should remain within the adult domain and not be beamed and fed to every child.
Now, when this depraved conduct, which has long become a norm – “daily” up in our face – what then must we expect from our young ones? What’s the message in all of this? Obviously what is perpetrated is soon copied, adopted and becomes infectious.
We are poisoning the minds of young ones by the excessive promotion of vulgarity, then, we hypocritically lament the degeneracy that has taken over.
But i have to say that I’m confounded, and really so. Am I to believe that this Town\ Region, with all those top officials, top functionaries, office bearers, board members, parliamentarians, party activists etc, have not noticed, so as to censure this cultural decadence pervading this Town\ Region?
I refuse to believe that they are all uncaring and amoral, that those various institutions and portfolios are just rooms and labels? What boggles my mind further is the reality that we have an EDUCATIONAL DEPARTMENT. Are they really serious, just what principles and policies are they guided by? And to top it off, the CHURCHES. This Linden community is loaded with religious institutions, men and women of the cloth. Are they too in slumber?
It is time these programmes\items be censored, whereby some semblance of decency and respect can be restored. I’m saying that young women of quality must reject the insult and put down of being branded and exhibited like cattle, by desisting from indulging in those bawdy dance shows as a mere sex commodity.
I couldn’t help being amused hearing a promoter encouraging children to stay in school, while he continued to play his video which was definitely not tailored for children attending school.
The promoter is free to promote his business – fair enough, but NCN-LINDEN has an obligation to be more responsible to the Town\ Region, more so our impressionable young minds.
