The family of Narissa Spencer, the dance instructor who was killed in an accident last April,
accepted a $5M compensation from the 18-year-old driver accused of causing her death by dangerous driving.
As a result, the matter was dismissed against Dwayne Griffith of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown yesterday by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Griffith was accused of driving motor vehicle PTT 9623, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Spencer on April 28, 2016.
Based on reports, the dance instructor, of Friendship, East Coast Demerara was struck down at the junction of Lamaha and Oronoque Streets, Georgetown, while walking to an aerobic class she coaches. Spencer was reportedly crossing a street during heavy rain.
It was reported that the driver of the vehicle tried to swerve away from the woman, but despite his efforts he still hit her. The car is reported to have toppled several times before coming to a standstill on its side. Griffith who had been out on $600,000 bail was also charged for driving without being the holder of a driver’s licence; driving without a third party insurance and driving a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner.
