A Jamaican National accused of allegedly masterminding a plot to execute and rob a popular businessman of Rose Hall Town, was yesterday placed on $30,000 station bail.
Commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam, confirmed that the suspect was released and he is required to report to the CID headquarters in Georgetown for further questioning, as the investigation continues. The force’s Major Crimes Unit is to be intervening in the case as well.
The businessman was also requested to report to the CID headquarters for questioning in an effort to assist with the ongoing investigation.
However, Curtis Fraser, 24, of New Amsterdam is expected to be charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and rounds, for being in possession of a stolen motorcycle and also for committing fraud by using a fake license plate on said motorcycle. Fraser was placed into custody on Thursday after a detective noticed that he was acting in a suspicious manner. Fraser while riding the stolen motorcycle reportedly collided with a car on the Albion Public Road.
However, it was when he asked a car driver to take him to another destination leaving his motorcycle behind that the detective decided to follow him. He exited the car two villages away and upon seeing the detective threw what appeared to be a firearm in the nearby trench.
He was arrested and the gun, a .38 revolver, with four rounds were retrieved from the trench.
During his time in custody the alleged “hitman” told investigators that the Jamaican National had allegedly hired him to carry out a robbery on the businessman and to kill him in the process.
In a previous interview Amsterdam had said that according to the investigation, the businessman is in business with the Jamaican. Amsterdam previously stated that according to Fraser the businessman owes a sum of money to the Jamaican National and it was due to the debt that a hit was put out on him.
