Dear Editor,
On February 23, 2017, a show which Adam Harris hosted was aired. The guests were Royston King, Amir Oren and a Spanish person on the Thursday night programme on parking meters.
Royston King as usual appears to be way in the distance with the truth as well as the Mayor and Amir Oren. King speaks of having consultation in 2015-2016 with mini-bus and taxi drivers which is totally untrue. The reality is that the Georgetown City Council through the town Clerk spoke to a select few taxi drivers and mini bus operators and warned them of the consequences from non-participation in the parking meter scheme.
A better approach would have been to invite the President of the United Minibus Union, Mr. Eon Andrews who is also the representative for the Guyana Market Vendors Union along with a few taxi drivers from different locations in the city. A consultation could have also been made with the Private Sector representatives and questionnaires could have been distributed to citizens of Georgetown so as to gain a feedback on the way forward.
It is my humble opinion that Pat, Roy and other acolytes try to avoid Eon Andrews (who they believe is a trouble maker) since he asserts himself, stands up for the people, challenges decisions and served on the Council, which may have made him knowledgeable of the corruption in City Hall etc.
I think the church appeal voice of King and Oren which were intended to trick viewers into feeling sorry for them and to believe in their apparent sincerity have just been used to mask their arrogance and conceit; a natural demeanor. The gang of four is simply desperate since delivering on that contract is not optional for obvious reasons (read between the lines) they have to deliver. It is our civic duty as Guyanese to save our Capital City and by extension our country from that corrupt and repressive contract (anchor) that they are seeking to place around our necks. It must be revoked.
