Come Wednesday, a ruling will be made in the trial of Tiffany Sulton, who is accused of having 106 grams of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The decision will be handed down by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The prosecution led by Police Inspector Arvin Moore, wrapped up its case on Wednesday.
Thereafter Sulton elected to give an unsworn statement. She called her father, Hugh Davis in her defence.
During her testimony, the defendant told the court that she was at home cooking when she heard a noise. Sulton said that when she turned around, several persons including, a woman, ran into her home and began searching.
Sulton told the court, “I started to use indecent language. Then a few minutes later one of the males identified himself as a police officer. I saw one of the officers go through my backdoor… while the others were searching.”
According to Sulton, the police rank came back into her home through that same door with a black bag in his hands. She told the court that the officer asked her if the items in the bag belonged to her and told her that he was going to arrest her. The defendant stated that she had $210, 280, two cellular phones and a laptop on a vanity in her bedroom. She added that she told the police ranks that the money belonged to her father and she was instructed to pack up the items to be escorted to the police station.
Sulton recalled that she was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown for questioning. While there, she said the officers weighed the narcotic.
The defendant claimed that she was slapped several times by a female rank which led to her becoming frustrated. She said she was later taken to the East LaPenitence Police Station.
In his testimony, Davis said he operates a welding shop at Lot 14 Broad Street, Charlestown, Georgetown. He said that after doing business he would give his daughter his money to keep. He described her as his “trustee”.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore, however asked that the defendant be found guilty of the offence. According to Prosecutor Moore, it was proven that Sulton had physical control and possession of the illegal substance.
