Dear Editor,
I am an ardent cricket fan and a fanatic of Berbice cricket. I have been following the intricacies of the Guyana Cricket Board and the Berbice Cricket Board cricket saga not to mention the court matter between two representatives of Berbice Cricket namely, Mr. Godwyn Allicock in his capacity as secretary of the Port Mourant Cricket Club, Mr David Black in his capacity as President of the West Berbice Cricket Association and the Berbice Cricket Board. In this court action, an injunction was filed against the results of the Elections held in December 2014 which was won by the Anil Beharry Administration ‘Mr Anil Beharry won from a Mr Victor Seubarran, an executive member of the Port Mourant Cricket Club. Team Anil Beharry included a Mr .Direndranauth Samaru among others.
He was the 1st Vice-President at the time and was given the important responsibility of reviewing the Board”s constitution. It should be noted that the Berbice Cricket Board was prevented from performing any activity other than administering cricket competitions .This status quo was maintained until the life of the Board expired in December 2016. During this time the 1st Vice – President Mr Direndranauth Samaru never ever visited any practice session or selection matches of the Berbice Representative teams nor participated in his club’s activities. It is with great surprise that I learnt of Mr. D Samaru’s elevation to the position of President of the Berbice Cricket Board in the absence of an Executive Meeting to confirm such a decision .
I was even more surprised to learn that this very vice-president was now in bed with the same persons who had prevented the Berbice Cricket Board from functioning back in 2015 .This self same vice – president has now usurped the position of the President by signing letters of termination of Board members without lawful authority. It should be noted that these appointments were made with the collective approval of the Beharry Administration and as such could only have been terminated at the behest of an Executive Board Meeting and not by the President alone.
Further even if there was an Executive meeting this would have been in violation of the court order secured by Messrs Godwyn Allicock and David Black rendering these terminations null and void and therefore this Mighty Godzilla should be held in Contempt of court. This type of Executive Lawlessness perpetrated by this Godzilla of Berbice Cricket on the cricketing fraternity in Berbice can only be envisioned in an Animal Farm Scenario in which Godzilla is the main actor. I rest my case.
