Dear Editor,
I wish to address the matter of the PAC Chairman embarrassing the Region One Executive Officer for not being in a position to defend the fact that some delinquent contractors were overpaid and that no monies were recouped from them.
One of the named contractors has come out via his attorney to state his case. In the letter of defence the Contractor, Aruka Investments, mentioned that the Government owed the firm millions of dollars. The Attorney even stated that some of the monies owed are involved in a situation where fraud was committed. The person involved in this instance is a known PPP supporter and the matter had secured the attention of senior officials in the Finance Ministry and the Police. What happened after is everybody’s guess. Incidentally, more business people are owed payments due to similar fraud (forging of signatures) by the same PPP supporter. She knows herself.
This situation should be investigated so that the Contractor and the other persons could be paid.
Then there is the notice of the bidders for a new contract – the Morawhanna Stelling Works and I see one of the named delinquent contractors has tendered. Will his tender be accepted? We hope not.
Thank you.
Celeste McIntosh
