Campton Mingo, a West Berbice man was on Thursday sentenced to prison for threatening to set his mother’s house on fire.
The accused was found guilty as charged when he appeared in the Weldaad Magistrate Court, West Coast Berbice, and was sentenced to four months in prison for making use of threatening language against his mother, as well as threatening to set fire to her dwelling house.
Mingo, 42, of Number Four Village, West Coast Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Rondel Weever at the Weldaad Magistrate Court to answer to the charge.
According to the case presented by the prosecution, Mingo and his mother both reside at Number Four Village, West Coast Berbice, but in separate dwellings. Mingo, however, would from time to time visit his mother and demand money to satisfy a habit, and would abuse her when she does not yield to his demands.
On the day in question, March 7, last, the accused visited his mother and demanded money. Mingo became angry after his mother refused to accede to his request. Not only was he abusive. He also threatened to set fire to her dwelling. The matter was reported to the police and Mingo was arrested and charged.
