Four men were yesterday remanded to prison for allegedly having over eight pounds of marijuana which was found at Lot 261 Blue Sackie Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown after ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotic
Unit conducted a raid at the said address.
The men Keith Bazilio, 65, a boxing producer and a father of 22 who resides at Lot 261 Blue Sackie Drive, South Ruimveldt; Oliver Bazilio, 32, of Lot 261 Blue Sackie Drive, South Ruimveldt, a clothes vendor; Shemroy Robertson, 32, of Lot 101 Mandela Avenue, Georgetown a Real Estate Agent and Clinton Chase, 66, of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme were all arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford stated that on the day in question the men had in their possession 4Kg, 734 grams of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. They all pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to them by the Magistrate.
Meanwhile Oliver Bazilio was charged separately for having in his possession 10 grams of marijuana a charge to which he pleaded not guilty.
Also charged separately was Shemroy Robertson for having 440 grams of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, a charge to which he also pleaded not guilty to.
Both Bazilio’s were represented by Attorney-At- Law George Thomson who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail citing to the fact that they were multiple persons residing at the home where the marijuana was found.
Thomson further stated that at the time of the raid Clinton Chase was only a visitor at the home.
Prosecutor Sandiford objected to bail being granted to all the defendants citing that no special reasons were provided for the court to consider bail.
Sandiford also told the court that Shemroy Robertson is currently out on $600,000 bail pending High Court trial for the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.The prosecutor further stated that the case file in the matter is still incomplete.
Bail was refused by Chief Magistrate and the defendants were all remanded to prison. They will make their next court appearance on March 27 for reports and statements.
