Stephen Atkinson, 35, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on March 7 at Omai Landing, Essequibo , he had in his possession one Taurus millennium .45 pistol and six 45 live rounds in his possession without being a licensed firearm holder at the time.
The man, who was represented by Attorney-At-Law Latchmi Rahamat, in her application to secure bail for her client, told the court that Atkinson, is the father of three and the sole breadwinner for his family.
Rahamat further stated that at the time of the discovery her client was at a shop in the company of four other persons when the articles were discovered on a table.
Rahamat told the court that based on information she received from her client, the articles were not discovered on his person.
However Police Prosecutor Simone Payne objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the nature and prevalence of the matter.
Payne further stated that on the day in question Police acting on information conducted a searched on the defendant and the articles were discovered on him and he was arrested and charged for the offence.
He will make his next court appearance today before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for reassignment.
