Ramona Agard, Guyana’s leading boxing referee/judge affiliated to the Guyana Boxing Association has been invited to officiate in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) championship next month in St Lucia.
GBA president Stave Ninvalle said that his St Lucian counterpart David ‘Shakes’ Christopher has requested the service of Agard, a One Star referee.
The OECS championship is scheduled for April 26 to 29 in Castries. “Mr. Christopher has made it known that the upcoming championship would be of the highest standard in all departments hence his appeal for Miss Agard,”
“I have no doubt that she will do Guyana proud and open the door for even more of our officials,” Ninvalle added.
Agard’s trek to St Lucia will make it the second time in three years that a Guyanese referee/judge will be officiating in that CARICOM country.
In March of 2014, Mark Drakes was applauded by the St Lucian Amateur Boxing Association following a sterling performance during a Tri Nation competition involving Guyana, Martinique and St Lucia.
Meanwhile, Ninvalle disclosed that St Lucia has also asked Guyana to send three novice fighters to the championship. Those boxers will be selected following the Andrew Lewis National Novice competition scheduled for this month end.
